Security Equipment Storage Matrix

HANDY MATRIX FOR MATERIAL STORAGE REQUIREMENTS
FOR CLASSIFIED INFORMATION AND AA&E

Within the DoD, certain materials must be stored in specific ways. The purpose of this matrix is to help the user determine appropriate storage for given materials. The matrix lists the types of material, the pertinent regulations, and the hardware to be used. Where the hardware must meet a specification, it is listed.

NOTES:
(1)	An existing Field Safe with a mechanical combination lock meeting UL Std 768, Group 1, or a new Field Safe with a mechanical combination lock meeting Federal Specification FF-L-2937 are approved for classified storage in accordance with AA-F-358K, Filing Cabinet, Legal and Letter Size, Uninsulated, Security. (2)	Pedestrian door deadbolt devices, covered by Federal Specification FF-L-2890, are intended for use on pedestrian doors to secure rooms and Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities (SCIFs). Visit our Pedestrian Door Deadbolt Devices page for more information.
(3)	All new GSA approved weapons containers and armory vault doors must use an FF-L-2937 lock for the storage of AA&E. Existing GSA approved weapons containers and armory vault doors may continue to use an UL 768, Group 1 mechanical combination lock for the storage of AA&E. If the existing UL 768, Group 1 lock fails, or requires replacement, it must be replaced with a lock meeting FF-L-2937. Visit our Weapons Container page for more information.
(4)	GSA-approved containers manufactured after 2007 will have a FF-L-2740 or FF-L-2937 lock (both exceed UL Std 768, Group 1)
(5)	Underwriters Laboratory (UL) TL/TR rating:
	TL means tool resistance using "common hand tools, drills, punches, hammers, and pressure applying devices."
	The number rating for TL means number of minutes for resistance, typically 15, 30, or 60
	TR means torch resistant (all six sides) in minutes for the number indicated
